Contest Mechanics

1. This contest is open to all students from Grades 4 to 6 for Category A and to all high school students for Category B. All participants must be currently enrolled for school year calendar 2013-2014. A maximum of 75 participants for each category will be accepted based on a “first to register” basis. The registration for a category will be closed when 75 participants have registered for the said category.

Excess registrants who are accepted after the 75th entry has registered will be informed and their registration fee will be returned in full. Because of simultaneous store registration, it is quite possible that excess registrants might be accepted before the announcement that the 75th entry has registered reaches all the stores.

 2. Qualified contestants must register on or before January 10, 2014 at any qualified  Pandayan Bookshop branch. Contest is exclusively for Pandayan Bookshop branches and schools within Region 3 only (Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Pampanga, Zambales and Tarlac areas). Registration begins on December 1, 2013. The registration fee is P25.00

(Twenty-Five Pesos). Important Note: Please bring your school ID w/ photo and present it upon registration.

We will not accept anyone who will not be able to present an ID w/ photo.

3.  The time and day of the contest shall be on:

Date     :   January 25, 2014 (Saturday)
Venue  :   Bulacan Provincial Capitol Gym, Malolos City
Time    :   8:30 a.m. –   9:30 a.m.  – Signing in of registered participants
                 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.  – Orientation for contest participant
                 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon – Contest Proper
                 2:30 p.m.  – Awarding
                 3:00 p.m. –    5:00 p.m.  – Exhibit of Winning Entries

Important Note: Registered entries who fail to attend the orientation for contest participants will be disqualified.

4. Contestants shall provide their own oil pastels, brushes, illustration board, and other materials that they need for the contest. The contestant’s artwork shall be painted on a landscape 10” by 15” (1/8) illustration board, using any brand of oil pastels.

5. The theme of the contest is “Paninindigan para sa Bayan”. The expression of the theme must revolve around love of country or love for Filipinos. All artworks must be done on-the-spot, and must be completed within the allotted time of two hours. Unfinished artwork will be disqualified and will not be included in the judging.

6. All entries will be pre-numbered.  No signatures, names, or other identifying marks should appear at either side of the material of the entry.

7. The winner shall be judged using the following criteria: Originality and Creativity (60%), Relevance to the Theme (30%), and Neatness of Art Work (10%) for a total of 100%

Originality and Creativity (60%). What is the main idea behind the artwork?  How novel is the design? Does the artwork make use of the medium and materials in a creative way?  How does the artist make use of the oil pastels to convey his original concept?  Judging must also take into account the artist’s use of color, texture and other elements of art to communicate his overall concept.

Relevance to the Theme (30%). How does the artwork convey Paninindigan para sa Bayan? How does the artist convey love of country or love for Flipinos? How does it inspire the viewer? Does the artwork have any emotional resonance and does it stay with you after viewing it?

Neatness of Artwork (10%). How is the overall production quality?  How much skill was employed to produce the entry?

8. There will be two sets of prizes and medals. The three major winners in each Category (A and B) will receive cash prizes and medals.

First Prize      :   P5,000 and Gold Medal per Category
Second Prize :   P3,000 and Silver Medal per Category
Third Prize     :   P2,000 and Bronze Medal per Category

9. Winning and non-winning pieces shall become the properties of Pandayan Bookshop, Inc. and may be used for its continuing advocacy campaigns to promote patriotism.

10. Relatives up to the fourth degree of co-sanguinity of employees of Pandayan Bookshop, Inc. shall be ineligible to join.

11. Major winners will be posted in all Pandayan stores and website.
